HB 500 wear-resistant steel plates consist of a low-alloyed steel containing carbon in the amount of 0.27% to 0.30%. Important alloying constituents are manganese up to 1.60%, silicon up to 0.60%, chromium up to 1.50%, nickel up to 1.50%, and molybdenum up to 0.60%. These constituents add hardness and wear resistance to the steel. Mechanical properties are Brinell hardness of 450–540 HBW, yield strength of around 1400 MPa, and elongation of around 10%. All these qualities place HB 500 plates in high-impact and abrasive conditions.
