JIS G3454 carbon steel pipes contain mainly carbon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, silicon, chromium, and molybdenum. The carbon content is usually up to 0.25% and manganese content is between 0.30% and 0.90%. Low levels of phosphorus and sulfur are maintained, usually below 0.040%, in order to improve weldability and minimize brittleness. Mechanical characteristics involve tensile strengths of 370 MPa, yield strengths of 216 MPa, and elongation percentages of 30%, depending on grade. Pipes can operate in high-temperature environments and are best suited for heat transfer purposes.
